HORSHAM POTATO MANUFACTURING FACILITY

SUPPORTING FARMERS ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN AUSTRALIA

Farm Frites is investing more than $300 million in a new potato processing factory at the Wimmera Agricultural and Logistics Hub in Dooen, Western Victoria.

The site will use locally grown potatoes from Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia to process up to 250,000 metric tonnes per year into frozen fries and potato specialties for takeaways, pubs, clubs and fast-food restaurants with construction underway and commissioning planned for early 2027.

TIMELINE, APPROVALS & OPERATIONS

Construction began in October 2025, with commissioning of the factory planned for early 2027. The project has already received a planning permit under the Victorian Government’s Development Facilitation Program, which streamlines planning decisions for projects that boost investment, jobs and growth. The Environmental Protection Agency has also granted a Development Licence for the food processing facility and an on-site wastewater treatment plant.

In its first phase, the factory will be capable of processing 250,000 metric tonnes of potatoes per year into a variety of frozen fries and potato specialty products. The facility will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

SUSTAINABILITY
& ENVIRONMENT

Designed with sustainability in mind, the facility incorporates energy-efficient systems to reduce waste and energy use and is prepared to decarbonise operations through 100% renewable energy. A renewable energy project is already in progress and will enable this transition, with the ambition to be fully operational by 2029.

In addition, Farm Frites will work closely with local growers to promote sustainable farming practices — helping to optimise crop yields while caring for the land for future generations. Together, these initiatives reflect our long-term commitment to reducing environmental impact.

ECONOMIC, COMMUNITY & EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

The project will deliver substantial benefits for the Wimmera, adding hundreds of jobs and significant annual economic activity while supporting Aussie farmers across south-eastern Australia. Farm Frites aims to become a vital part of the Horsham and broader Wimmera community by providing jobs and career pathways, economic growth and a lasting benefit to its chosen home.

Farm Frites is working with growers in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia to supply 250,000 metric tonnes of potatoes annually. The company is committed to supporting these growers in their day-to-day decisions on fertilisation, irrigation and disease prevention to strengthen sustainable farming practices.

Across the life of the project, the facility will create a wide range of employment opportunities. During construction (2025–2026), around 750 full-time equivalent jobs are expected. By 2027, there will be approximately 150 ongoing full-time equivalent roles, with a further 95 ongoing roles by 2031, totalling 245 ongoing jobs. These roles will span administration, management, factory operations, regional sales and maintenance, offering diverse opportunities for people in Horsham and the Wimmera.

STRATEGY & LONG-TERM COMMITMENT

Initial production from the new factory will prioritise the domestic Australian market, with export opportunities to New Zealand, the Pacific and South-East Asia over time.

Australia is a key growth market for Farm Frites, with strong demand for high-quality potato products. Building a new, greenfield facility allows Farm Frites to apply its latest technology and standards locally, strengthen regional supply and bring production closer to customers as part of its global expansion strategy.

This investment demonstrates Farm Frites’ long-term commitment to Australia, its customers and its farming communities. Since 2016, Farm Frites Australia has proudly supported the local foodservice industry. The new facility further strengthens that partnership by producing high-quality local products, creating jobs and backing sustainable agriculture – all with the goal of being a trusted, long-term partner to its customers.
